Preface

We offer two different versions of FileQuest XP for evaluation:

q       FileQuest XP Gold Edition

The gold edition comes with the most essential tools for your daily needs. Some of the features are Preview, FTP, Scripts, File splitting, optimization options and much more.

q       FileQuest XP

FileQuest XP is designed for home users who have less need for a complete solution for managing files. Such a user might not have a need for FTP support or to preview files on the fly.

Unless specified, every place where the text mentions FQXP Gold v4.0, it also refers to FileQuest XP v4.0 (the non gold version).

General information on upgrading to the latest version

Regardless of the version of FileQuest currently installed on your computer, FileQuest XP will not alter it. FileQuest XP installs in a different folder and stores information in a separate place in the Registry. You can keep your older version running while testing FQXP Gold v4.0 to see if you would like to upgrade.

Please note FQXP Gold v4.0 no longer supports Windows 95.

When you first run FQXP Gold v4.0 it will import most your old settings (reports, tasks, tools, etc.). You may need to manually set individual settings from the Options dialog.

Important (Gold version only): Your old backup files for FileQuest XP Gold v3.x are not compatible with this release.

If, when placing your order for FQXP Gold v3.x your have also purchased Life Time FREE upgrades, then this upgrade is free for you.

Upgrade Policy

q       If, during the first 60 days after placing your order for any of the above products, a new version is released, only the difference in price between the two versions is required. If the new release costs the same, than no payment is required.

q       Purchasing Life Time FREE upgrades, grants your FREE upgrades for every future releases.

q       Critical fixes are guaranteed to be free of cost. For example, if FileQuest XP will not be compatible with any future version of Windows, we will release a free fix for that.

Removing your old version of FileQuest

After you have upgraded to the latest version of FQXP v4.0, you have two options to remove your previous version.

Option 1: From the Add/Remove Control Panel applet, find an entry for ‘FileQuest’ and select Remove.

Option 2: If the above entry is not present, or if you wish to manually remove any traces of previous versions of FileQuest:

q       Go to \Program Files\FileQuest

q       Remove the following folders: FileQuest, FileQuest XP

q       Start RegEdit

q       Remove the key:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PiQuest Software, Inc.\FileQuest XP\3.0

What’s new in FileQuest XP Gold v4.0.3

Version 4.0.3 includes the following fixes and new features:

  • 'GB' size option added to Find/Criteria dialogs. This lets users easily search files based on their size in GB

  • When searching for files between two sizes, the lower bound and the upper bound can have different size unit

  • A compatibility problem with Windows NT v4.0 is fixed

  • FTP: An option to set a Passive connection

  • Problem of lost keyboard focus when previewing Office documents is fixed

  • SHIFT + INSERT works when renaming file names (works the same as CTRL + C)

  • When searching for whole words, allow anything that is not a letter or number before and after the word. So when searching for PiQuest and specifying a 'Whole Word Search', the following words will be found

    • 'PiQuest'

    Previously the following three examples would have not been considered a whole word

What’s new in FileQuest XP Gold v4.0

New Features:

Preview Bar & Preview Features (Gold only)

The preview feature is taking a leap forward by providing a separate shared preview bar that is shared by all windows. Each window can still have its own preview, or use the shared preview bar.

The preview offers several modes:

o       Binary – Shows raw binary data

o       Icons – Show icons for files that have icons (EXE & DLL)

o       Read only text

o       Editable text

o       AVI files

o       Office files

o       Internet files (web sites)

o       Misc files (images etc.)

Most preview modes comes with a context menu providing access to functions and with a toolbar.

Icon Mode – Icons can be copied and pasted or dragged and dropped from the preview window. Icons can be double clicked to be opened for editing

Text Edit Mode – A find dialog is supported, the preview functions as text editor. CTRL+S  saves your changes. F3 searches for the last searched item

Tree Filters (Gold only)

Create Tree Filters to hide folders that you don’t work with. For example, create a filter to remove any all folders other than the C drive (hide, CD-ROMS, Floppies, etc.) These tree filters can be applied from a toolbar or from a drop down menu.

Tree tool tips (Gold only)

When holding down the CONTROL key and hovering above a tree node, the folder size and number of files will be presented in a tool tip.

Folder Search Based On Size (Gold only)

When searching for a folders, you can search for folders based on their size.

Microsoft Office Search & Filter (Gold only)

You can search, select and filter office files based on the author, title or subject of the Office  document.

Support for NTFS Junctions (Gold Only on 2000/XP)

Junctions are an advanced feature for NTFS drives under Windows 2000/XP. A junction is a folder that point to another folder. A junction is not the same as a shortcut. For example you can create a junction 'C:\Office Files', that will actually point to 'D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\fpclass'. FileQuest XP Gold makes creating and deleting junctions a breeze. 

Improved Edit In Place (Gold only)

In Details mode (CTRL+F12), you can directly edit information, such as date fields, extension, description and attributes. The view of files behaves like a spreadsheet. When you are in Edit Mode, you can move up and down, tab to next field for editing etc.

New Columns (Gold Only)

Six new columns are available in Details mode

o       Files – Shows the total number of files in a folder

o       Folders – Shows the total number of folders in a folder

o       Contains – Shows the combined information of the above two

o       Office information: Author, Title, Subject

FQXP Opens All Folders In Windows

You can now set FQXP Gold to always open when opening folders in Windows.  This option is only for advanced users:

o       Start Windows Explorer

o       Select Tools/Folder Options from Explorer

o       Switch to the File Types tab

o       Find the Folder file type and click on the Advanced button

o       Add an action ‘Open With FQXP Gold’ and set the command line to:

“C:\Program Files\PiQuest\FileQuest XP Gold v4.0\FileQuest.exe" "%1"

          Make this new command the default command.

Customizable Toolbars

Customize every toolbar to have its own buttons and its own text options.

New Columns Dialog

A new dialog makes it very easy to add the columns you are interested in and reorder them.

You can even assign a different color for each column.

Automatic unlocking

The retail version of FQXP Gold v4.0 automatically unlocks itself by connecting to our secure server. 

Sound Events

You can customize FQXP Gold v4.0 to play a sound when certain events happen, such as closing or opening a window.

New Search Type: Icons

You can search for icon file or icons that contains files, such as EXE and DLL file types.

New Color Chooser

A new dialog was added helping you choose colors.

Easier Then Even To Add Tasks/Reports/Personal Folder

A simple step by step new interface makes it a snap to add even complex items such as tasks

Cleaner Main Menu

The main menu can be customized to remove all items that have a keyboard shortcuts. This will make the main menu much cleaner only showing those items you must use the menu to access.

Tray Icon

FQXP Gold can be customized to never removed the tray icon, making it a snap to bring it back to view

Folder Tree Color

The folders tree can be customized to have a custom color

Personal Folders

Separators can be added to the Personal folder menu and toolbar

Header Re-Arrange

When in Details mode (CTRL+F12), headers can be rearranged by dragging and dropping them into the desired place

Enhancements:

Previewing WAV files (Gold only)

When the preview window is turned on, selecting a WAV file, will play it.

Customized FTP Port (Gold only)

When creating an FTP object, you can select the port you are connecting to

New FTP Task Type (Gold only)

You can add a task to upload a group of files to a previously FTP site

Improved Split/Merge (Gold only)

Many of the features of FastSplit Gold were added to FQXP Gold. Including the ability to split any size of files, split/merge directly to/from a removable media and many more.

Improved tool tip options (Gold only)

Tool tips are much more customizable, you can select three different delays types. You can also select to show the default Windows Explorer tool tip for files and folders.

Also, you can set FQXP Gold to show the size of a folder as a tool tip.

New Delete Options

A new dialog let you set many options for deleting files and for clearing your Recycle Bin.

A very important feature is to always check for locked files before deleting files. This can save you time and also warn you when you are trying to delete locked files.

You can also trigger this check by holding down the CONTROL key when deleting files. This option also works when doing a Clear, Safe Clear and Destroy.

SHIFT Key

When selecting an object from a menu or from a toolbar (such as tasks, tools, etc), it will open the object for editing

Hidden Status Bar

The status bar will be hidden from view when no folders are open, providing a cleaner look for FQXP Gold. A new pane always shows the size of the drive and the amount of free disk space.

Hide FileQuest XP

A new option let you completely hide FQXP when you minimize it. This option is only enabled when you choose a hotkey to restore FQXP.

Outlook Integration

You can directly drag and drop attachments from Outlook to FQXP. This saves you the extra step of saving them through Outlook.

‘My Computer’ Folder View

Selecting a drive item in the ‘My Computer’ view, will show the actual used and free space in the status bar

Copy Across Views

A new option let you copy files to the clipboard across multiple windows. You can select a group of files in folder A, then switch another group of files in folder B, then paste the files from both folders to another folder.

Folder Wallpaper

A new option let you set a wallpaper for file folders

Attributes Search Improved

Four new options were added:

o       Search for files that are NOT read-only

o       Search for files that are NOT hidden

o       Search for files that are NOT system files

o       Search for files that are NOT locked

 Versatile Reports & Tasks

Two new options for reports and tasks let them become really powerful:

o       You can select to always run the Report/Task on the selected folders in the folder view

o       You can select to always let you choose a folder(s) the run the report/task on before running them

New Toolbars

Every type of object in FQXP Gold now comes with a toolbar. For example, for your reports, you can show a Report toolbar. Or, for your tools and favorites you can have a Launch toolbar. For each object you can select if too add it to the toolbar or not.

This let you access your objects quickly and easily.

Drag and Drop To New Toolbars

When an objects toolbar is displayed you can drag and drop files and folders to toolbar buttons. This has a different effect based on the toolbar:

o       Dragging items to a Launch toolbar button, will launch the selected toolbar button with the dragged items as arguments, when dragging to a non-folder item

o       Dragging items to a Launch toolbar button, will copy/move to the selected toolbar button’s folder

o       Dragging folder(s) to a Tasks/Reports toolbar button, will run the selected Task/Report on those folders.

Improved Taskbar

A new dialog let you fully customize the built in taskbar. Here are some of the new options:

o       Show the taskbar on top/bottom

o       Show the taskbar only after a certain number of windows is open

o       Show the taskbar only when all windows are maximized

o       Taskbar buttons act as toggles, just like the Windows taskbar buttons

o       Color options

o       Font options

o       Flat appearance

Also, you can drag and drop files and folders directly to taskbar  buttons

Improved Back/Forward

When moving back or forward, the last selected folders are re-selected.

Improved Favorites

You can now store multiple folders in one favorite, letting you open a set of folders at the same time.

New Choices For Tool’s Arguments

You can add arguments to your tools in three different ways:

o       Add a fixed argument

o       Popup a dialog before running a tool letting you insert an argument

o       Pick up the selected items in the files view as arguments

Sort Order

FQXP Gold stores not only the last sort type but also the last sort order (up or down)

File/Folder Size Options

You can select to show the file/folder size in three different ways:

o       Default (KB,MB,GB depending on the size)

o       Bytes – Always show size in bytes

o       KB – Always show size in KB

Hidden Folders

You can hide/show hidden folders in the folders tree. This enhancements let you hide files/folders in folder views but still view hidden folders in the folders tree.

Context Sensitive Help

Each dialog comes with its own help. You can access it by pressing F1 while the dialog is open.

Flat Window Bar

The window bar can be configured to be flat providing a more pleasant appearance.

Detailed Recycle Bin

The Recycle Bin folder was improved to display detailed information about deleted files

You can also select files in the Recycle Bin using Edit/Select from the main menu

Improved Explorer Mode

In Explorer Mode, you can open as many query windows (search, report, etc.) as you like without closing the folder you are working with.

Dialogs Movement

Move any dialog by clicking anywhere in the dialog gray area and dragging the mouse pointer.

Performance/Stability/Memory

This latest version of FQXP Gold is more stable, consumes much less memory and is 30% faster than the previous version.

Toolbars & Icons

All toolbars and icons now support 256 colors instead of 16, providing a much more pleasant appearance of FQXP Gold.

Custom Icons

Each object in FQXP (tools, reports, favorites, etc.), can be customized to have a different icon than the default one.

Improved Choose Folder(s) dialog

o       The dialog is resizable and initially bigger

o       The folders tree has check boxes to make it easier to select multiple folders

o       When selecting multiple folders, selecting a previously selected folder from the list of folders, will also select the folder in the folders tree

Improved Status Bar

The status bar shows the folder size and the total number of files/folder in it. It also shows size in GB for very large items.

‘Prompt For…’

When right clicking on an EXE file, a menu item, ‘Prompt for arguments…’ is added to the context menu

Details Mode

In details mode, Control Panel and other virtual folders, show more information, such as a Comment for items.

Improved Edit Boxes

Two new improvement for edit boxes:

o       Most of the edit boxes are no longer read only, so you can type directly in them.

o       An Edit Box will a red background if the data in it is no longer valid. For example, if you have a tool that point to a non exiting file, the edit box that holds the path to that file will have a red background

Improved List Boxes

If a list box has an invalid item, that item will have a red background.  For example, it the Tools dialog, if a tool is no longer valid, it will have a red background in the list box of tools

Improved Menu Items

If a menu item is invalid it will show will a special icon and a red background. For example, if a tool under the Go menu item is invalid, it will be shown with a red background.

The above three enhancements makes it very easy to maintain your reports/task/tools and other objects.

What’s new in FileQuest XP Gold v3.1

Print To Clipboard (FileQuest XP Gold Only)

A new option to print to the clipboard will create and copy the report to the clipboard. From the clipboard you can paste it to any document of your choice. It pastes really nicely to an Excel spreadsheet

Sync With added to context menu (FileQuest XP Gold Only)

When right clicking on a folder, you are given the option to sync it with another folder. You can elect not to add it from the ‘Options dialog/System page’

Expand / Collapse all folders

While pressing the ‘+’ to expand a folder in the folders tree, you can hold down the CONTROL key to expand all nodes.

While pressing the ‘-’ to collapse a folder in the folders tree, you can hold down the CONTROL key to collapse all nodes.

Win+Shift restores and also minimizes

Pressing the Shift and the Windows keyboard keys will restore and minimize FileQuest XP,  it now behaves as a toggle, while previously it only restored FileQuest XP.

New  Explorer Tree Layout

The explorer bar has a new look, Gone are the two tabs (Desktop & Personal). Personal folders now appear in the main folders tree under ‘My Folders’.

Personal Folder Ordering

Using the My Folders dialog, you can change the order of personal folders as they appear in the menu and the folders tree.

Searching In Multiple Folders

When selecting a group of folders and selecting Search from the context (right click) menu, all the folders will be added to the search.

Performance Boost

FileQuest XP Gold loads faster and takes less RAM then FileQuest XP v3.0. It also loads folders and search faster than ever!

Cleaner Interface

An effort was made to provide a cleaner interface. Some of the changes are, removing the tabs from the Explorer bar and removing the splitter from the folder view.

Clicking on the Sort Toolbar Button

Previously it clicking on the button would have changes the sort type to the next sort. In this version clicking the Sort button changes the sort order from ascending to descending or from descending to ascending.

New Open/Choose Folder Dialog

The Open Folder dialog has been improved. It is easier to use and also include an edit box that makes it easy simply to type in a folder name.

New Path Box In the Explorer Tree

You can add a path box to the Explorer tree to make it easy to quickly open files and folders. It can be added from the ‘View/Explorer/Path Box’ menu item. Once added select File/Run or use CTRL+R to get to it.

Copy/Move & Rename

FileQuest XP let you copy/move files and rename them at the same time. You can use this feature in two ways:

q      When dragging files using the left mouse button hold down the ALT key. The cursor will change to indicate a copy/move rename operation

q      When dragging files using the right mouse button select it from the context menu that opens when you release the mouse button

This behavior will differ depending if you are dragging one or  more files:

q      Dragging one file: If you enter a new name with no ‘.’ FQXP will use the current extension and only rename the file name. If you enter a ‘.’ , the whole string will be used as the new name.

q      Dragging more than one file: The string that you type will be used as the new extension for all the files being dragged.

FileQuest XP Gold v3.0 Edition New Features

The following new features are only available in FileQuest XP Gold Edition.

Preview Window /Preview Window Customization

You can preview almost any file type using the bottom or side preview window. This is a great way to view files without having to open them. You can even edit Word and Excel documents inside FileQuest!

This feature comes complete with optional customizations options.

 File New/File New Options

FileQuest XP Gold let you create new files on the fly. Right click on a folder or select File/New from the main menu.

 This feature comes complete with optional customizations options:

Export/Import Your Settings

Export all your settings to an INI file and Import it back if you need to re-install FileQuest XP . This feature is your best way to protect your settings and all the reports and tasks that you have created. You can also use this feature to set FileQuest XP on multiple computers.

Security Feature: Destroying Files

If you want to remove files from your computer in a way that will prevent it from being restored you can use Destroy. This feature is extremely important for people who work on sensitive documents or who receive sensitive documents by e-mail.

Folder Size Display

FileQuest XP Gold will display folder sizes on the fly. This feature is very useful in order to calculate what folders on your hard drive consume a lot of space.   

Task Advanced Options

FileQuest XP let you create tasks to automate file operations. Tasks are included in all versions of FileQuest XP. FileQuest XP Gold adds extra options for running a task. 

Printing

FileQuest XP Gold let you print a folder either to a printer or to a file. Print Preview is also supported.

File Descriptions

FileQuest XP Gold supports file descriptions. You can add a custom description to files and folders and FileQuest XP will show it in details mode or when tool tips are enabled.

Tool Tips

Tool tips let you view information about files and folders that is only presented in Details mode. Tool tips can be customized and c an also be disabled. 

FTP Support

FileQuest XP Gold adds a Quick Upload menu. You can upload your daily work to an FTP site of your choice. You can also open it to view your files. This feature comes complete with customization and advanced options. 

Scripts

Scripts are created by grouping tasks together and executing each task after the other. Here is a sample of a script:

  1. Delete all intermediate files from folder ‘y’
  2. Backup folder ‘y’ to my zip disk
  3. Set all files on my zip disk to read only to avoid accidental delete 

File Syncing

Using FileQuest XP Gold you can now sync two folders by copying only new files or files that have changed. This is a great way to make sure you are not overwriting newer files.  It can also save you a lot of time by not copying files that didn’t change. Press Shift+F9 if you want to synchronize with multiple folders.

Modify File Details On The Fly

In Details mode, you can edit various file details directly. You can change file dates, extension, description and attributes.

File Splitting

When you need to backup a file that are too big to fit on a Zip or Floppy disk, FileQuest XP can split the file to smaller files and later  merge it and create the original file.

The following new features are available in all versions of FileQuest XP, unless noted otherwise.

Eject / Insert Drive

The Eject menu under the Disk menu let you eject removable media such as a Zip disk or a CD from the drive.

Improved Task Engine

Using Tasks  let you automate your daily file operations. FileQuest XP makes it much easier to create tasks, and also adds more options for tasks operations. A detailed explanation of all the new options for tasks is provided in the manual.

Share Drives & Folders

Using Alt+S key you can share any folder or drive. You can also use the Share menu under the Disk menu to share drives. 

Clear Folder / Safe Clear Folder

Sometimes there is a need to delete all files under a folder and its subfolders while not deleting any folder, thus keeping the folder structure. This is what the Clear command does. Safe Clear deletes all files to the Recycle Bin.

Activate FileQuest XP with a Hot Key

You can switch to FileQuest XP or bring it back from the Tray Bar with a hot key. A very handy feature when your hands are already on the keyboard.

Create Simple Reports On The Fly

The ‘Copy Path As Text’ command under the Edit menu has been greatly improved. First, you get a new option to copy just the name of a file and not the full path. Even better, this command now works on multiple selections of files letting you create simple reports by pasting the result to Notepad and printing it. If no items are selected all items in the folder are copied.

Command Line Parameter

Add a folder name to FileQuest XP  command line and it will open each time you start FileQuest XP.

Unknown Types Editor

You can define a default editor that will open all non associated file types automatically. This files are usually simple text files that can be easily viewed by Notepad.

License Files

New in FileQuest v2.2 and greatly improved in FileQuest XP, License files let you install FileQuest XP on multiple machines without the need for unlock codes and tedious registration numbers. As long as you keep your license file in a safe place, you will never need to contact us to re-install FileQuest.

 License files created for FileQuest v2.2 are not compatible with FileQuest XP.

Search In Multiple Folders

A new option let you search in multiple folders. This will let you search ‘C:\Windows’ and ‘C:\Program Files’, for example.

Search For Locked Files

We all now how annoying can it be when you try to delete a folder only to receive an error message from Windows because a file is locked by another application. Now you can search for the offending file and possibly close the application that has locked it.

Exclude Files & Folders When Searching

You can exclude certain file types and folders from your search. For example, if you have a folder with various picture types, you can define a search for all files (*.*) excluding any JPEG files. This will return all image files that are not JPEG’s.

Use Default Icon

This is a performance option that speeds up loading remote folders. You can also use this option for local folders.

Command Option For Tools

When creating a Tool, you can set the Argument and Startup folder to %s. This will use the current folder and current selected file when running a tool.

Faster File Operations

FileQuest XP has improved performance when working with files.

Updating All Personal Folders

Updating all personal folders runs in the background, letting you keep working with FileQuest XP instead of waiting for it to finish.

Multiple Folder Selection

FileQuest XP let you select more than one folder where before you were limited for one folder only. For example, you can select to open multiple  folders at startup instead of just one folder.

Improved Web Controls

FileQuest XP offer a new option to automatically open a combo box from either the left side or the right side of it. Especially useful for the Address Bar combo box.

Header Control Context Menu

When you right click on the header control or a column header a context menu is presented letting you add and remove columns on the fly.

Improved Main Tool Bar

Copy and Move are now part of the main tool bar.

Hot-Key to stop a search

In addition to pressing the stop button you can also press the Esc key to stop a search.

Faster & Smaller

FileQuest has many new features and new enhancements. Still, it is 45% smaller than FileQuest v2.2 and 40% faster. We don’t believe in releasing new bloated new versions that require more computing power and more resources.

Improved Back/Forward Drop Menus

The Back & Forward menu (from the main tool bar) now show 16 items with icons and using improved text features.

Auto-Show Login Dialog

If you have more than one user defined, you can force FileQuest XP to show the ‘Choose User’ dialog when it starts, if you hold down the CTRL key.

Auto Select Folder

When moving up one folder (for example from C:\Window to C:\), the current folder will be select in the parent folder. In the previous example, C:\Windows, will be highlighted.

Minor GUI Changes

Here are some minor visual enhancements:

q      ‘Address’ removed from the Address Bar

q      Task Bar moved to the right to allow more space to the tree of folders

Auto Update

FileQuest XP let you check for upgrades automatically. You can set it to check for a new version every number of days or do it yourself.

Better Install

Instillation program is much smaller and doesn’t require a reboot after you install FileQuest XP.

Personal Folders Performance

Personal folders load and update much faster than before.

Timed Selection

A new option let you set how long will it take FileQuest XP to auto-select items when hovering above them.

New Copy/Move Destinations

To simplify copying you can drag and drop to these new items:

q      You can drop items onto the Drives tool bar

q      You can drop item to the ‘Up’ icon in the folder. (this is the first item in every folder).

Improved Text Searching

Text search now support searching more than one word and an option to find all words or just one word.

Duplicate Items

Most dialogs for FileQuest XP objects (Tools, Favorites, Tasks, etc.) now offer an option to duplicate an item. This option is very handy, for example, if you create a complicated tasks and want to create another very similar task.

Create Shortcut Improved

When no item is selected FileQuest XP will show the Windows Create Shortcut dialog

Copying To Multiple Folders

If you want to copy a group of files to more than one folder, press the Shift key while pressing the Copy button (main toolbar), or when selecting ‘Copy To…’ from the files menu.

Delete Button Drop Menu

The Delete button (main toolbar) has a drop menu for the new delete operations.

Improved Disk Menu

The new Disk menu now let you select the available drives from the menu, instead of selecting it from a dialog box, thus making it faster to perform common disk operations.

New Protected Format Menu

The format menu (under the Disk menu), only shows removable drives. You can also set it to show all drives.

New Drives Popup Menu

Drive buttons in the Drives Toolbar have a custom drop menu for common disk operations.

Load A Personal Folder At Startup

You can now set specific personal folders to load when you start FileQuest XP.

Restore Windows To Exact Position

FileQuest XP  will restore all last open windows to their exact location each time you start it.

Removed Annoying Message

When attempting to open more than the allowed maximum number of open Windows, FileQuest XP will change the content of the current window without showing a warning message box.

New Header Columns

FileQuest XP offers two new columns in Details mode: Created & Accessed. In addition, you can also set FileQuest XP to add the time as well as the date to all three columns: Modified, Created & Accessed

New Setting For Headers –Fit Columns

When ‘Fit Columns’ is set, the columns in Details mode will readjust to make sure information can be fully viewed. This is a very handy feature especially when navigating between different folders in Details mode.

Enhanced ‘My Computer’ View

When viewing ‘My Computer’ folder in details mode, FileQuest XP shows the total size of drives as well as free space information.

No Exit During File Operation

Previously FileQuest would have let you to exit when a file operation (such as Copy or Move), was taking place. It would have resulted in the file operation being terminated and most likely to not complete. In order to avoid that, FileQuest XP gives you a warning when you attempt to exit during a file operation.

FileQuest XP Bug Fixes

This version includes many bug fixes. Listed below are the more serious bug fixes that are part of this new release.

q      A possible crash when the folder tree (the left pane) is being refreshed

q      A possible problem of frozen window making it impossible to close FileQuest

q       Possible refresh problems when working with zip or floppy disks.

Installation Problems 

If you encounter problems installing FileQuest XP, please follow theses steps:   

q       Make sure your current installed version of FileQuest XP is not running

q       Clear your c:\temp and C:\windows\temp folders.

q       Delete all fqxp*.exe files from you computer (be sure to search for it).

q       Download FileQuest XP again and save it (don't run it yet!).

q      Right click on the downloaded file and select ‘Extract To’, select a brand new folder, If there is no 'Extract To' command, double click the file instead

q       After extraction is complete, run setup.exe from the new folder.

Unlocking Problems 

If FileQuest XP fails to unlock, please make sure you have followed our instruction to unlock it. Especially pay attention to the following details: 

q       When starting FileQuest XP, an unlock dialog should open, if you don’t see an unlock dialog or see a trial dialog, you are not running the correct version. Make sure you are running FileQuest XP from the right shortcut. 

q       If you get an error message that FileQuest XP can’t find the license file, make sure to copy it to the folder mentioned in the message. 

q       If you get an error that the information typed in the Unlock dialog is incorrect, make sure to enter the exact information you have received from us. Capitalization of letters and spaces should be the exact same. 

q       Note that if you are attempting to install FileQuest XP again in order to unlock it, you need to close FileQuest XP first.
